Tripwire addresses security, operational and regulatory requirements by
auditing changes to the configuration of key servers and network components.
|
|
|
|
|
Maintaining the integrity of key systems has long been a concern of
security professionals - spotting unexpected changes to configuration files,
executables and data.
It is, in effect, the last line of defence, as it means
keeping a close eye on the things that intruders really want to
change or update.
But the current focus on corporate responsibility, with all the
compliance issues that need to be addressed, means that Tripwire's
configuration auditing is of value beyond the IT security department. It can
help prove that the processes used to control change are working
effectively.
A third area of application is in maintaining availability: spotting
undesirable changes can often head off operational problems before
they happen and hence limit downtime.

For smaller organisations, Tripwire for Servers detects and pinpoints
changes to system and configuration files. System managers can see
what changed, when it changed, how it changed, who changed it - and
roll servers back to a known and trusted state if necessary.
A wide range of servers is supported, including all the common
variants of Windows, Solaris,
AIX, Linux, HP-UX, FreeBSD and Compaq Tru64.
Although Tripwire for Servers can be run as a standalone application,
Tripwire Manager can be used to control large numbers of
installations, including the creation and application of a “golden
build” based on a known, good state.

Tripwire Enterprise provides a single point of control for
managing configuration audit in a complex environment. It pulls together
data from desktops, storage, directory servers and network devices,
covering a wide range of vendor platforms.
This offers larger organisations a flexible baseline management and
reconciliation system, plus a complete set of reports for
performance metrics, trend
analysis and detailed difference analysis.
Note that users of Tripwire for Servers can migrate to Tripwire
Enterprise if their requirements change over time.
